# Use of Renewable Energy Sources

Several renewable energy sources with different technologies can be used in hospitals for heat, cooling and electricity generation.

These include solar energy, wind energy, solid and gaseous biomass and geothermal energy.

Solar energy can be used for hot water production with solar thermal systems, for electricity generation with solar photovoltaic systems and for space cooling with thermal absorption cooling.

Wind energy can be used for electricity generation with small wind turbines.

Solid biomass and biogas can be used for heat or/and for heat and power generation while geothermal fluids can be used directly for heat generation or indirectly with geothermal heat pumps for heat and cooling production.
